Custom UD tapes for highly loaded components
We develop and manufacture semi-finished products from continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic polymers (UD tapes), matched to your mechanical requirements, your production process and your application. From the first development batch to a reproducible material solution.

Do you need a specific UD tape?
We develop the matching material from fiber and matrix for your application. Would you like to use your own matrix polymer? No problem. Send us the datasheet so we can check the boundary conditions.

What is a UD tape?
A UD tape is a semi-finished product consisting of reinforcing fibers embedded in thermoplastic polymers. “UD” stands for unidirectional and describes the parallel alignment of all fibers in a preferred direction. As a result, the material is particularly stiff and strong in this direction, while it is much less load-bearing transversely. You can find more on this in our blog post Continuous Fiber-Reinforced Thermoplastics (UD-Tapes).

Process match
Matched to your processing
A UD tape only develops its full potential when material and geometry match the component and the intended manufacturing process. That is why we do not develop and produce our tapes solely to fixed standards, but match them specifically to your application.
Depending on the requirement and technical feasibility, the following properties can be adjusted, among others:
Fiber and matrix
Selection of a suitable combination of reinforcing fiber and thermoplastic matrix according to the mechanical, thermal and chemical requirements.
Tape width and tape thickness
Matched to component geometry, placement process and the desired material distribution.
Fiber content and areal weight
Adjusted to the required mechanical properties and further processing.
Roll length and spool geometry
Designed to fit your equipment, tape feeding and required lot size.
Delivery quantity
From the first development batch for material trials and prototypes through to reproducible production of follow-on series.
The result is not an off-the-shelf material, but a UD tape that fits your component, your process and your technical requirements.
Quality assurance
Defined and traceable material quality
A UD tape must not only reach the required properties. For reproducible further processing it is equally important that geometry, material build-up and quality are reliably maintained within a batch.
That is why we record and document the key properties of the UD tape already during production. The specific scope of testing is matched to the material system, the development stage and the requirements of your application.

Depending on the project, the following characteristics can be examined and documented, among others:
Tape width and tape thickness
Inline inspection of geometric properties for uniform placement and reproducible component thickness.
Areal weight and fiber content
Recording of the material build-up as a basis for design and processing.
Impregnation quality and void content
Assessment of fiber distribution and embedding in the thermoplastic matrix, as well as possible defects and the consolidation quality achieved.
Mechanical characteristics
Determination of relevant properties for material selection, simulation and component design.
Batch and material documentation
Traceable assignment of starting materials, process parameters and test results.
This creates a robust data basis for comparing development stages, setting processing parameters in a targeted way and detecting material variations at an early stage.
